Taxiway A North and Apron Improvements
Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport, Jackson County, OR
Located in Jackson County, Oregon, the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport is a small hub airport and the primary commercial service airport for southern Oregon and northern California. Rogue Valley International saw enplanements over half a million passengers in 2019 and aircraft operations averaging over forty-thousand annually. Precision Approach Engineering was hired to engineer and design the apron conversion of failed asphalt pavement to concrete for large commercial aircraft parking and the rehabilitation of the northern half Taxiway “A,” including a new underdrain system and updating taxiway intersection geometry.
These improvements enabled the continued use by aircraft such as the A-320 and MD-80 and larger. This project contained many elements that required careful coordination within the operations of the Airport, such as ARFF access, airport safety & security, SIDA access, commercial air traffic, airline ground support vehicle traffic, and construction schedule.
Specific project elements included asphalt and PCC pavement sections, construction replacement of storm drainage structures and piping network, electrical and lighting improvements, replacement of utilities, and pavement marking. Additive bid schedules were incorporated into the design to allow the most project flexibility and to maximize all available grant funds.
