Runway and Taxiway Edge Lighting and Signage
Astoria Regional Airport, Oregon
Replacement of runway edge lights for Runway 8-26 and Runway 13-31 included new electrical conduit and cable associated with the edge light circuits and a new electrical equipment building with new standby generator installation. Work also included additional taxiway edge lights for Taxiways A, A2, and A3, new electrical handholes, and replacement of all lighted signs.
Phasing and sequencing was a major component of this project. Project elements covered the majority of the airside facilities, necessitating construction to be completed in six phases. The airport, having two active runways, required construction sequencing to close one runway allowing work on the other. In the work zone where the runways intersected, a temporary displaced threshold was deployed to provide for an active runway to remain open at all times.
